OUR GOALS

for your Pre-Kindergartener at Creative Horizons

We want every child to feel safe and secure at Creative Horizons. So of course, we first need to meet their physical needs!  They need to have plenty of nutritious and familiar things to eat and they need to feel safe and loved. They need time to “wind down” in the afternoon and rest or nap. They need a safe environment to explore and careful supervision to keep them safe. This is the basis of our philosophy for our Pre-Kindergarteners!

But this is just the beginning. . . . . this is just meeting their physical needs.  We also want our little ones to grow intellectually and emotionally. We want them to continue their language development and to master auditory discrimination skills necessary for reading. We want them to become interested in math and calculations and measuring. We want them to recognize and print letters and learn the sounds of letters. We want our Pre-K kids to sing and love music, to socialize and learn to play and get along with others and learn to use their problem solving skills. Most of all, we want them to reach their full potential in every way!

Our owner/director, Ann Lynch, is in this business because she loves the children and because their well-being is as important to her as it is to you.  Ann decided a long time ago that her life’s work was to provide care and education for the children of Helena. With a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Ann is known for her dedication to quality care. Creative Horizons is one of the few Early Childhood Centers in Helena that participates in the Child Care Nutrition Program. This program requires that all meals & snacks meet the highest nutritional standards.

WELCOME TO CREATIVE HORIZONS, WHERE YOUR CHILD’S WELL-BEING IS OUR LIFE’S WORK!

PLAYTIME at CREATIVE HORIZONS

PRE-KINDERGARTENERS need a variety of activities and materials to accommodate their growing minds. At Creative Horizons we choose activities carefully to strengthen old skills while encouraging and reinforcing important new skills.

For PRE-K’s we have puzzles, trucks and cars, dolls and soft toys, blocks to stack and  challenging building toys. We have fabulous books for our pre-k students –books for teachers to read and special books for students to handle and enjoy on their own. At this age, kids enjoy “pretend” play and love to play dress up in the dramatic play corner, manipulate puppets in the puppet area, and race cars around winding raceways. They begin to be more interested in art and drawing, and enjoy painting and coloring and activities with clay.  Many play activities are really learning activities in disguise!

We choose toys and educational activities carefully so that they are challenging but not frustrating. We check materials frequently to see that they are safe and in good repair. Our goal is for our students to have new and challenging activities to accommodate their growing intellect. We want our students to reach their full potential!

HEALTH PRACTICES AT CREATIVE HORIZONS

We know that hand washing is the single most important thing we can do to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Adult caregivers and children wash hands frequently throughout the day. Caregivers wash their hands when they enter the room, when returning from a break, or just getting supplies from another room. And of course they wash before and after meals ad after diaper changing or dealing with bodily fluids, such as wiping noses or cleaning “spit-up”.

Kids hands are washed before and after sensory and messy play, after coming in from outside, and after diaper changes and potty time.

Toys and tables are sanitized regularly. Noses are wiped promptly and tissues are NOT shared.  All dirty surfaces are cleaned with sanitizer.

All beds, cots, and sleeping surfaces are assigned to one child, and not shared. Likewise, blankets and bedding are assigned to one child at a time and never shared. Linens and blankets are laundered weekly or more often as necessary.

We post illnesses that are confirmed ad call parents to pick up children that are ill, to avoid the spread of disease and viruses.

SAFETY PRACTICES AT CREATIVE HORIZONS

Protecting children is critical in providing quality care.  At Creative Horizons we work hard to minimize hazards both inside and out. Teachers are trained to anticipate potential safety problems and demonstrate and teach children safe practice.

We make sure there are enough staff present to supervise children safely during “rowdy” activities as well as quiet play.  Children are never left unsupervised.   Staff stay close to children while they are eating new foods. Bottles are never propped and of course infants are always held during feeding.

At Creative Horizons we hold regular fire and emergency drills. All staff receive ongoing training in what to do in an emergency. First Aid kits are available in each classroom and our caregivers are trained in first aid as well as CPR.

Meals and Snacks at Creative Horizons

Our kids love their delicious meals at Creative Horizons. We are proud to be one of the very few Child Development Centers in Helena that participates in the Child Care Nutrition Program, a federal program that helps us by carefully monitoring and approving every item of food that we serve. All meals and snacks are approved by a nutritionist, and tested by kids make sure it taste good! It’s important that children eat familiar foods, this helps them to feel at home here, but equally important is the fact that we carefully introduce new taste experiences to students, and encourage everyone to try different and new foods.

Menus are always available on the front counter, you will always know what your child is eating every day, for every meal and every snack!

Our breakfasts include Oatmeal, French Toast, Strawberry Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs and Cheerios and Fruit. Breakfast always includes fruit or fruit juice and Milk. We never serve artificial juice drink. When we say juice, we mean 100% fruit juice!

Our lunches are designed to fill hungry tummies and to provide necessary nutrients for growing bodies. Beef Spaghetti and Macaroni and Cheese with Ham are big favorites, but our kids also love Chicken Noodle Soup loaded with vegetables, Bean and Cheese Burritos and Chicken Quesadillas, to name just a few. Fruit and Vegetables are served with every lunch, as is milk.

Afternoon snack is vital, since play is hard work!  All the kids  love our Blueberry Smoothies, Trail Mix & String Cheese with Crackers. Our kids get a variety of different foods. We prepare enough food so that everyone gets plenty!
